Canadian International School partners with Yamaha Asia

Canadian International School (CIS) is taking music education to the next level with a new partnership with one of the world’s leading names in music, Yamaha Asia.
As Yamaha’s only international school partner in Singapore, CIS is bringing together Yamaha’s expertise in music education with the learning environment of its Academy of Music. For students, this means more opportunities to learn, perform and develop their musical interests with access to Yamaha’s instruments, technology and curriculum.
The partnership was formalised at a signing ceremony with CIS Head of School Jared Nolan, Executive Director Kings Lau and Academy of Music Director Dan Hartig, alongside Division Leader Stephen Chia, Division Leader, and Deputy Division Leader Shane Cheok from Yamaha Music Schools (Asia).
Introducing the Yamaha Music Friends Course
A key part of the partnership is the introduction of the Yamaha Music Friends Course, making CIS the first international school in Singapore to offer the programme.
The Yamaha Music Friends Course is a beginner group music programme for grades 1-3. Designed specifically for beginners, these small-group classes build strong musical foundations while developing confidence, creativity, collaboration, and a lifelong enjoyment of making music.
The programme was developed by the Yamaha Music Foundation in Japan and will be delivered at CIS by educators who have received specialised training from Yamaha Music School in Singapore. Students will learn using Yamaha instruments and the official Yamaha curriculum, combining Yamaha’s expertise in music education with the supportive learning environment of CIS.

The Yamaha partnership marks an exciting next step for the CIS Academy of Music, which has continued to grow since its launch two years ago.
At CIS, we believe music has an important place in a child’s education. It gives students a chance to be creative, work with others, build confidence and, most importantly, enjoy making music. Through our partnership with Yamaha Asia, we look forward to giving even more students the opportunity to pick up an instrument, discover something they enjoy and grow their confidence through music.
