The CIS 50:50 bilingual model (Pre-K to Grade 6)
In our primary school, we utilize a distinctive 50:50 model where students alternate daily between English and Chinese instruction. This ensures equal exposure and authentic immersion in both languages.
- Two qualified teachers: Each class is supported by one native English-speaking teacher and one native Chinese-speaking teacher.

Writing across languages
Using The Writing Rope framework, we provide explicit instruction in foundational writing skills. Writing is embedded within IB units of inquiry, allowing students to communicate complex ideas with clarity in both scripts.

Chinese-English bilingual entry requirements
Places in CIS’s Chinese-English bilingual programme are subject to availability. Entry requirements are outlined in the grid below. So that we can determine programme eligibility, students applying for grades 2 to 6 may be required to sit English and/or Chinese proficiency assessments.
Students in grades 1 and 2 who test at Wida level 1 or 2 in English language proficiency will be required to enrol in the English Language Learner Programme.
