IB Diploma Programme

The IB Diploma Programme (Grades 11–12)

The Diploma Programme (DP) in grades 11 and 12 is considered the gold standard of secondary programmes, and is accepted by leading universities around the world. In the DP, students are challenged to extend themselves in both their academic and personal development in preparation for university and life beyond school.

DP core and subject groups

The curriculum is made up of the DP core and six subject groups.

One subject from each of the following subject groups is required:

  • Studies in Language and Literature
  • Language Acquisition
  • Individuals and Societies
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • The Arts, however students may choose to study an additional sciences, individuals and societies, or languages subject, instead of a subject in the arts.

A minimum of three subjects must be taken at the Higher Level (HL), allowing for specialisation or focus of interest. The remaining courses are taken at the Standard Level (SL).

What is the DP Core?

At the heart of the IB Diploma Programme is the DP Core or CAS - Creativity, Activity and Service- designed to support students’ growth beyond the classroom.

Through three interconnected components, students develop leadership, resilience and a strong sense of purpose, while building skills that prepare them for university and life beyond school.

  • Creativity – Students explore and express ideas through original or interpretive work, such as music, visual arts, film, theatre or design projects.
  • Activity – Physical activity supports wellbeing and healthy lifestyles, through sport, movement, outdoor pursuits and personal fitness goals.
  • Service – Students volunteer meaningfully with their community, developing empathy, leadership and global awareness through collaborative service experiences.
