How CIS shaped a future in law and storytelling
By CIS Communications
For Prithvi Narayan, storytelling and law are not separate paths - they are two compelling ways of giving people a voice.
Now studying Law, CIS alumnus Prithvi Narayan is also an author and the founder of a creative writing foundation that supports young people and non-native English speakers in Singapore to share their voices. Through workshops and mentorship, he helps participants develop confidence in expressing their ideas both on the page and beyond it.
His own writing journey has evolved alongside this work. He is a published author of two books: Home Away From Home and Reciprocity. He highlights his role of storytelling not only as a form of creativity, but also as a way to connect with and inspire others. For Prithvi, storytelling is more than creative expression. It is a means of connection, one that can bridge backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.
Balancing these commitments with the demands of law school requires focus and discipline. It is a balance he traces back to his time at Canadian International School, where the foundations of his academic and personal development were first established.
Through classroom discussions and extended writing tasks, Prithvi learned not just how to communicate, but how to think—how to construct an argument, question assumptions, and engage with multiple perspectives. These experiences strengthened his ability to articulate ideas with clarity and precision, skills that now sit at the core of both his legal studies and his work as a writer.
“The ability to articulate ideas, whether in writing or discussion, has been invaluable,” he reflects. “It’s something I began developing early on and continue to rely on every day.”
The structure and expectations of the CIS learning environment encouraged him to take ownership of his time and approach his work with consistency and intent. Learning to set realistic goals, manage competing priorities, and maintain discipline over longer-term projects has proven essential in navigating the independence and pace of university life.
He also developed strong time-management habits at CIS, learning to set achievable goals and stay disciplined in his work. With the greater independence that comes with university life, these habits have remained crucial. He continues to structure his time carefully, often starting his work early in the day, a routine first established during his years at CIS.
More broadly, Prithvi points to the culture of the School itself. One that valued curiosity, encouraged exploration, and created space for students to pursue interests beyond the classroom. It was within this environment that he began to see the connections between different disciplines, and to understand how skills developed in one area could be applied meaningfully in another.
Looking ahead, Prithvi hopes to continue exploring the intersection between law, storytelling, and social impact. Whether through advocacy or writing, his focus remains the same: creating spaces where more voices can be heard.
We are proud of Prithvi and eager to see the impact he will make in the future
