Hi, my name is Dev Pal. I’m a Lakeside grade 8 student, and the captain of the U13 Singapore team for the Junior World Indoor Cricket series. I’m passionate about cricket and have always found pleasure in playing by imitating my idols from world cricket. Earlier this year, I attended the squad trials in order to get shortlisted to represent Singapore in indoor cricket.

After a rigorous training routine and selection process, I was shortlisted as one of the top 12 cricketers to form the U13 team, which would be part of the squad  that would go to Australia in June/July 2018. I was given the honour to lead the U13 team and I must say that it’s been a huge learning experience. I grew a lot as an individual because cricket is a team sport that helps to nurture the best kind of collaborative skills.

I did run into challenges, of course. I broke my important right index finger in Toowoomba, Queensland - 2 weeks before the Australian tournament. However, I managed to play 8 out of 9 games and still did pretty well as a batsman. That tournament was an amazing experience for the entire squad. We were so inspired by the unbelievable level of athleticism and competition standards.

Based on our performance, I was given the honour to lead the team again for the Junior World Indoor Cricket series in Christchurch, New Zealand, at the end of September. I am really looking forward to it and I am sure we will give our opponents a tough fight!
