While engaged in the UOI “How we express ourselves”, TK Grade 2 students discovered the art of storytelling, where sharing stories, often comes with improvisation or embellishment. And who better to explain and demonstrate the art of storytelling than a professional storyteller?

Catherine Carvell, Singapore based Australian children’s author, visited students and hosted a vivid storytelling session. Catherine read from her Red Dot 2016/17 shortlisted book “Deep Fried Frogs”. She talked about the different stages of writing, and her approach to the planning and idea phase of creating characters, and how to bring them to life. Students were amazed to hear that her book had been rewritten sixty times before the final published version. Catherine admitted to them that even now there are things she could still improve on!

This talk was inspirational, and provided students with an insight into the life of an author, and how to be an effective storyteller. After Catherine’s sharing session, the real fun began - as students were tasked to create their very own characters! We cannot wait to see those stories.
