The bilingual programme at CIS provides students with meaningful and engaging opportunities to learn various concepts in two languages. Students not only learn how to communicate in English and Chinese, they also make meaning of the world by experiencing two different cultures in the classroom. Nearly three hundred students across sixteen classes are part of this wonderful CIS learning journey.

On 22 February, our bilingual classes participated in a Chinese new year assembly in the presence of their parents, teachers as well as peers from our mainstream English classes. Each bilingual class from SK to Grade 5 showcased what they have learnt in the classroom through a variety of performances. It was evident that our students have been making deep connections with the central ideas and key concepts while they developed their transdisciplinary skills.

Our students looked stunning in their Chinese costumes as they danced to peppy Chinese tunes and sang some melodious Chinese folk songs. The colourful Chinese displays in the David Foster Theatre added to the cultural experience. Everyone in the audience was very impressed by our students' ability to confidently and fluently speak Chinese. This assembly was a celebration of our students’ inquiry into the Chinese culture, and paved the way for the year of the rooster! Gong Xi Fa Chai!
