Our story

about us

We’re an International Baccalaureate world school located in Singapore. Founded in 1990, CIS welcome over 3,100 students from 74 nationalities enrolled across two campuses – Lakeside in the west (2 to 18 years) and Tanjong Katong in the east (3 to 12 years). We are one of the few schools in Singapore, to offer all three International Baccalaureate programmes; Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and the Diploma Programme.

The school day runs from 8:30am to 3:30pm, with half day options for our nursery and pre-kindergarten students.

The Canadian International School is an International Baccalaureate School.

Inspired by the IB PYP framework, our curriculum focuses on developing children's foundational social, literacy and numeracy skills, as well as their fine and gross motor skills.

Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 10
Reflecting our international context, our curriculum draws from the best curricula globally and is delivered within the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and IB Middle Years (MYP) framework.

Grades 11 and 12
The Diploma Programme follows a curriculum set by the IB. This ensures that students globally are studying the same course material and are prepared for examinations at the end of Grade 12.

Yes. Our Chinese -English Bilingual programme is open to students in junior kindergarten through to grade 6. It is offered at both our Lakeside and Tanjong Katong campuses. It is fully aligned with the IB PYP and includes two qualified teachers per class: one native English speaker and one native Chinese speaker. From Senior Kindergarten onwards, students must meet the specific language requirements to enter the programme. For more details visit here.

CIS English language proficiency requirements vary depending on a student’s grade. A detailed overview of the requirements can be found in the Entry requirements section on this website.

There is high demand for places at the Canadian International School and waitlists do exist for a number of year groups. For information on the availability of places, please contact our Admissions Executives for further information. It is advisable to apply for a place as early as possible.

Our minimum age requirements for entry into each grade level are in the table below (children must reach the required age by the month / date indicated). While these guidelines are an indication of the required age for each grade level, CIS will in exceptional circumstances accept students who are up to one year older than the grade level age. This is subject to the approval of the School.

*With the exception of Nursery (where toilet training is included in the programme), children joining our Kindergarten programme must be completely toilet trained.

**The Diploma Programme is for students aged 16 to 19. Any age exceptions will be subject to the approval of the Secondary School Principal.
