The faulty shorts will be returned to the supplier. Please note that these exchanges must be done before the end of this school year.

  TK News

From Tanjong Katong Principal, Paul Hoff
Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week began with an Organizational Day for teachers. It was a preparation day...preparing to close this year's classes and beginning to prepare for the start of next year. It was a very productive day.

Our Grade 7 to 10 students completed their exams on Wednesday. The sigh of relief from these students could be heard across the campus as the the last exam came to an end at11:00am. Congratulations to all our Middle Years Programme students for the time and effort they put forth to ensure that they give their best on these exams.

Our Grade 5 students have begun a project that integrates technology into book reviews. After reading a book, students are creating video and images to give a synopsis of the book. Quick Response (QR) Code technology, funny looking bar codes like the one below, are placed on the front cover of a book and are linked with the students' book reviews. These book trailers provide other students with an avenue to gain further information as they choose books of interest to read.

QR Code for TK WAGTo use QR Codes, download a QR Reader app on an iPhone, iPad and Android. QR Codes are being used by many students and teachers around the school to present information. Please take the time to scan them when you see them on campus.

Sports Days take place next week. The growth in our population has caused us to schedule this activity over four days this year. The schedule follows.

DayTimeGrades
Mon, 11 June1:00 to 3:00pmGrades 1 to 3
Tue, 12 June9:00 to 11:00am MYP, Dragon Boat Regatta
Tue, 12 June12:30 to 3:00pm  MYP, Sports Day Activities
Wed, 13 June9:10 to 10:10am ECE to SK Energy Explosion
Thu, 14 June1:00 to 3:00pmGrades 4 to 6

This year the Grades 4 to 10 students will be divided into four colour houses (red, blue, green, or yellow) as they compete in activities. Your child will be asked to wear a shirt showing the color of the house they have been assigned to. Sports Days will also provide leadership opportunities for older students as they will be enlisted to help with the younger students' events. As you can see on our Tuesday schedule, our MYP students will be participating in a Dragon Boat Regatta. This activity is the culminating event to the four week Dragon Boating unit that they have been participating in as part of the Outdoor Pursuits Programme in their PE classes. It looks to be an exciting week of activity. I invite you to join us to cheer on the students as they compete in fun events on these days. You can also help out by making sure your child comes prepared with ahat, sunscreen and a water bottle.

Enjoy the weekend.

Paul Hoff
Tanjong Katong Principal

Catechism Classes to Students in International Schools
St. Ignatius Catholic Church provides catechism classes to students in international schools in the Archdiocese of Singapore. The academic calendar begins in September and ends in May with term breaks correlating with most International School holidays. Classes range from Kindergarten to Grade 8 (Confirmation). Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are received in Grade 2 (register child at 7 1/2 yr old). Sacrament of Confirmation is received in Grade 8 (register child at 13 1/2 yrs old).

Online catechism registration will be available from 1 August for the 2012-13 year. Go to
www.stignatius.org.sg/ccd for details and "Submit Registration".

Please note that registration will close on Saturday, 25 August for the Grade 8 Confirmation class and on Friday, 31 August 31 for the other grades. For all student registrations, parents are requested to provide the date and place of Baptism.

CCD has a one-way bus transportation from some of the international schools. Make sure to check the box "Require Bus from School" during the online registration if you would like to have bus transport to the Church. This indication helps to determine whether there are enough children to hire a bus.

Sleep Workshop on Saturday, 14 June 2012
Start your summer off right by getting your child's sleep in order. This is a how-to-do-it right sleep training workshop.

Sleep training often gets a bad reputation because people, while well intentioned, do not understand how sleep works and do not implement sleep training correctly. There have been over 30 studies since 2007 showing how poor quality sleep has a negative and harmful impact on achild's temperament, behavior and ability to learn. Not doing anything is often worse than learning how to correctly adjust sleep. Sleep is a brain function and must be learned and there are 4 key issues with sleep. This program will educate you on how sleep works, what causes problems, busting sleep myths and then giving you the tools to correct your problems

Check our website for more details or call Tammy at 9030 7239 for more information.

Sports News

Congratulations to Madeline Hill and Max Koskinen on their display of outstanding sportsmanship at a Junior Track and Field meet at Clementi Stadium last weekend.
We scored our very first goal in the third game the team ever played. Showing confidence in the opponent's field, we lost 2-1 in a hard fought match.
In a competitive home game at CIS TK, our 14U boys basketball team showed off their skills against UWC Dover.
