Our Teachers

Our qualified, experienced and dedicated teachers share the CIS commitment to educational excellence and uphold our community outreach ethos. Their passion is evident in the bio's that you will find in this section of the school website. 

Whilst a large number of our teachers are initially from Canada, they are joined by colleagues from countries such as Australia, the United Kingdom, the USA, China and France. This diversity adds to the richness of our communities' cultural tapestry. Our professional support staff are both expatriate and Singaporean and display a strong commitment to upholding the CIS beliefs.


 

Principal

David Benjamin Ansbacher
High School Principal
Diploma in Education Leadership, Masters in School Administration, M.A.T. in Social Studies Teaching, Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science

I grew up in Burlington, North Carolina, USA and attended Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio with a junior year at Trinity College, Dublin.   After graduating, I spent a year and a half teaching English in a rural area outside of Windhoek, Namibia.

I completed my Masters degree at Brown University and taught Humanities and English in Fremont, California and Raleigh, North Carolina. 

I served as principal of East Millbrook IB-MYP Magnet Middle School in 2003-2008 and was a finalist for the Wake County Public Schools Principal of the Year in 2006 and 2007.

I earned my Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from North Carolina State University in December 2008 and have served as an adjunct professor there while working as Senior Director for magnet programs for the Wake County Schools.  

I enjoy playing guitar and piano, hiking, reading, exploring, and spending time with my wife and three children.

I have acquired a BA History, MA History from California State University at Long Beach and Ed.D. Educational Leadership from William Howard Taft University at Santa Ana, California.

I am originally from India and have spent the past 23 years teaching and living in both India and Singapore. I graduated from the University of Delhi with a Bachelor of Commerce, Masters of Commerce, Masters of Philosophy and a Bachelor of Education.

In addition to being the IB DP Coordinator, I also teach Business Studies and Economics in the OSSD and IB Diploma Programmes. I enjoy teaching and interacting with students. In my spare time I enjoy playing badminton, yoga, reading and spending time with my family.

I am originally from Canada and have spent over 30 years teaching and living in Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Singapore. I have graduated from Brock University, McMaster University, and the University of Toronto.

I have been appointed as a Senior Examiner (Team Group Leader) by the International Baccalaureate for the assessment of Theory of Knowledge.

I am from USA and have been teaching overseas for 4 years now, previously in Thailand and Taiwan.

I completed my BA Telecommunications at Indiana University, BS Mathematics at Northern Kentucky University and my Masters of Education at teh Indiana Wesleyan University.

I enjoy sports and athletics, mainly basketball, as well as being a novice salsa dancer. I also enjoy reading and traveling with friends. I have coached several sports in the past and enjoy working with young adults in this capacity.

I am originally from Australia and have been living and teaching in Australia and Singapore for the past 12 years. I studied in Australia and graduated from James Cook University with a Bachelor of Science, from Central Queensland University with a Post Graduate Diploma (Teaching) and from Monash University with a Post Graduate Diploma (Science).

I originally obtained my degree in Physics/Math as I wanted to be a meteorologist, so I have a love of all things to do with the weather. I also love just about every sport (except volleyball). I am particularly a fan of Aussie Rules Football, soccer and cricket. I play touch rugby here in Singapore.

Microbiology and Secondary Education in Science

I was born in Hungary but spent most of my life living in Montreal, Canada. I have been teaching there for 11 years. I have a degree in Microbiology and Secondary Education in Science from McGill University.This will be my first year teaching at CIS and teaching abroad, and I am very excited about the changes and challenges of working in a new environment. 

I am very active and enjoy all kinds of sports. I am involved in rugby, squash, ultimate frisbee and many others. I also love to travel, meet new people and get to know different cultures. I try out pretty much anything I have never done before because I enjoy experiencing new things.

I am from Canada. I have 12 years teaching experience and have previously taught in Canada, Kuwait and Hong Kong.

I earned my Bachelor of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto.  I hold additional Specialist Qualifications in Physical Education and Geography.

I have two beautiful children, and a fantastic wife who are also a part of the CIS-Lakeside community.

As a family we like to travel, watch baseball, hockey, and the latest animation movies.  

I love sports and enjoy playing hockey and baseball, and I also like to ski.  The sports that I have coached in the past include volleyball, ball hockey, softball, baseball and wrestling.

Bradley Baker

I am Canadian and have spent the last 12 years living and working in Canada, England and Singapore. I studied at Nipissing University in Canada and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education. I currently teach IB History.

I play the guitar and drums. I play drums with a semi-pro band here in Singapore and often perform live. I like to travel to places of historical interest, especially related to World War II, and have been to 45 countries so far. I study astronomy and astrophotography. My main fitness activity is cycling. I ensure I am continually learning by working on my Masters in Military History and taking music lessons.

I have spent 13 years teaching band, orchestra, choir, and drama overseas in Switzerland, Luxembourg, Oman, Kuwait, and Thailand. I have performed solo recitals throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia while teaching overseas.

I am from Dutch Indonesian descent, was born in Curaçao, raised in the Netherlands and started my global journey many years ago. 

I have 7 years teaching experience in the Netherlands, Germany and Singapore and graduated with a Bachelor of Education from Holland University. I am specialised in the integration of technology into schools, classrooms and curriculum, and am an Apple Distinguished Educator.

Besides technology and the Web, I have a great passion for visual and auditory arts and enjoy making music, shooting movies and photos, and creating and playing video games. I also like to catch some waves, ride snow or hoover the streets with a board under my feet. I love to travel and experience other cultures.

I am married to Hetty Boon who is Junior Kindergarten teacher at CIS, and we have four children: Kyarah, Noa, Zildjian and Ysatis. Our children are happily part of the CIS community and enjoy the safe and warm learning environment which makes them blossom in many different ways.

Greg Walasek

I am originally from Racine, Wisconsin in the United States. I attended University of Wisconsin-Parkside where I studied Art Education and played on the men’s soccer team, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts coupled with K-12 Visual Art Teaching Certification. I have taught Visual Art for 6 years with the previous 5 being spent teaching at an international school in South Korea.

In my spare time I enjoy playing, watching and coaching soccer, as well as most other sports including cheering on the Green Bay Packers. I also enjoy traveling and spending time with friends.

I am originally from Toronto, Canada.  Prior to joining CIS, I taught for 19 years in Canada, Singapore, China and Cambodia.

At CIS I work on a number of initiatives including: Grade 9 and 10 Excursion Weeks, ECAs and Athletics, Physical and Health Education, High School Student Support, the Advisory Programme and coaching football, basketball and baseball.

I am originally from Madison, Wisconsin, USA.  After graduating from the University of Minnesota I worked as an English assistant at an elementary school in Madrid and for a number of years as both a counsellor and program representative for Concordia Language Villages.  

My last four years were spent working as a French and Spanish teacher at an international boarding school in a small mountain town in Switzerland where I spent a lot of time traveling, skiing, and enjoying the outdoors.  

I'm happy to live in a big city again, and in my spare time like to read, play volleyball, in-line skate, and practice yoga.
