Graduation Requirements 

The following provides an overview of graduation requirements for all grades - Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Grade 12.  


ECE to Grade 8 Graduation Requirements

Cumulative assessment will serve as a benchmark and indicator of a student's successful graduation of a relevant grade level. Students who are at risk of not successfully completing a grade level will be counselled by the teacher and/or principals.

Grade 9 Graduation Requirements

Successful completion of grade 9 requires a student to score:

  • 4 or higher in all 8 MYP subject areas OR
  • 4 or higher in 6 or 7 MYP subject areas and future participation in the Student Success Programme at the Principal’s discretion.

If a student does not meet these requirements, they will remain in Grade 9 at CIS at the Principal’s discretion.

Grade 10 Graduation Requirements

Successful completion of grade 10 requires a student to score:

  • 4 or higher in all 9 MYP subject areas (including the Personal Project) OR
  • 4 or higher in 7 or 8 MYP subject areas and future participation in the Student Success Programme at the Principal’s discretion.

If a student does not meet these requirements, they will remain in Grade 10 at CIS at the Principal’s discretion.

IB Diploma

Grade 11 IB DP Graduation Requirements

The expectation for DP Year 1 students is to achieve a 4 in each subject area at the end of year 1. The DP Year 1 student will be promoted to Year 2 if s/he has a level four in each subject. If a student has less than 4 in any subject, the principal and promotion committee according to the following criteria will review a student:

  1. All SL subjects are Level 2 or higher and all HL subjects are at Level 3 or higher
  2. A minimum total of 9 in SL subjects and 12 in HL subjects
  3. 50% completion of CAS activities
  4. Satisfactory progress in TOK and Extended Essay

Decisions about retention in Grade 11 will be made after review of these criteria by the principal and the promotion committee.

Grade 12 IB DP Graduation Requirements
Article 15: Award of the IB diploma

The IB diploma will be awarded to a candidate whose total score is 24 points or above , provided all the following requirements set by the IB  have been met.  A detailed description of these additional requirements can be found here

Ontario Secondary School Diploma

Grade 11 OSSD Graduation Requirements

The OSSD program is based on a credit system. Students must earn a minimum of 30 credits to obtain an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Of these credits, 18 are compulsory and the remainder of the credits are optional. Students will be granted 16 credits upon successful completion of the Grade 9 and 10 MYP.   At the end of Grade 11, students should have accumulated at least 22 credits to be promoted to Grade 12 for on-time graduation.  Full details regarding credits required can be viewed at www.cis.edu.sg/Academics/OSSD

The OSSD program is based on a credit system. Students must earn a minimum of 30 credits to obtain an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Please note that the OSSD is currently being phased out at CIS. The grade 12 cohort in the 2012-2013 school year will be the final students at CIS to graduate with the OSSD. Students entering grade 11 in the 2012-2013 school year will be enrolled in the IB DP.
