Ontario Secondary Diploma Program
The Secondary School Programme focuses on academic skill foundations and university preparation. The International Baccalaureate Diploma and Ontario Secondary School Diploma Programmes creates a challenging academic environment that encourages students to achieve success in academics, athletics, community service and the arts. This well-rounded curriculum allows students many opportunities for specialized development while encouraging a large range of talents, interests and abilities.
In order to earn the OSSD, a student must:
- Earn 18 compulsory credits
- Earn 12 optional credits
- Complete 40 hours of community involvement activities
- Successfully complete the provincial secondary school literacy test
Compulsory Credits (total of 18)
- 4 credits in English (1 credit per grade)
- 1 credit in French as a second language
- 3 credits in mathematics (at least 1 credit in Grade 11 or 12)
- 2 credits in science
- 1 credit in Canadian history
- 1 credit in Canadian geography
- 1 credit in the arts
- 1 credit in health and physical education
- 0.5 credit in civics
- 0.5 credit in career studies
- 1 additional credit in English, or a Third Language, or Social Sciences and the Humanities, or Canadian and World Studies, or Guidance and Career *.
- 1 additional credit in Health and Physical Education, or the Arts, or Business Studies, or Cooperative Education*.
- 1 additional credit in Science (Grade 11 or 12) or technological education (Grades 9–12), or Cooperative Education*.
Optional Credits (total of 12)
In addition to the 18 compulsory credits, students must earn 12 optional credits. Students may earn these credits by successfully completing courses that they have selected from the courses listed as available in the school course calendar.
Grades 9 & 10
The Grade 9 & 10 programme is designed to provide the academic skills necessary for success at the upper grades. The courses focus on foundation skill development and encourage students to discover their talents and interests through a wide breadth of courses.

Students have teacher-mentors who provide academic guidance and continuity for the student. As part of their requirements, students are required to participate in a Community Service placement, a programme that fosters a wider awareness of the world around them and encourages the spirit of volunteerism.
Grades 11 & 12
The grade 11 & 12 programme is a challenging and intensive academic environment. Students are involved in highly academic courses requiring independent thought, critical thinking, creative problem-solving and strong communication skills. The purpose of these programmes is to prepare students for the academic requirements of university and college.
