Ontario Pre-School Academic Programme

Our Pre-School programme incorporates activity-based and inquiry-based learning through the Primary Years Programme within a safe, exciting and nurturing environment. Students work at learning centres to develop basic mathematic and language abilities. These learning centres allow teachers to focus on individual development and ensure that each child has a rewarding and po sitive experience.

Kindergarten Programme

The curriculum expectations and learning centres are the same for both Junior and Senior Kindergarten with the main difference found in the children themselves. As children get older and further develop, they are able to draw broader and more abstract conclusions. This means that while children may explore similar concepts or manipulatives in both grades, they will learn and develop completely differently, according to the needs of each child.

Integrated Learning

Children learn best and maintain their interest in school when they have an educational programme that is integrated – one that enables them to connect what they are learning to what they already know about their own lives and the world around them. This also helps children to see how knowledge and skills in one area are relevant for all other areas.

Learning Through Inquiry

Most young children are curious and ask questions about things that catch their attention. Our program capitalizes on this natural desire to learn and absorb information.

Learning Through Play

There is a strong link between play and learning for young children. Play is therefore a legitimate and essential part of any Kindergarten program.

Activities

The word Kindergarten means “a garden of children” a place where children may experience growth – mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is a place where activities are designed to meet the needs of your child; those needs include: self-confidence, belonging, achievement and affection. If these needs are satisfied, children will acquire sen sitivity and adaptability, thus helping them adjust to a rapidly changing world. The variety of activities allows children to develop as individuals at their own rate. Some of the activities include: house and drama centre, block centre, art centre, writing centre, reading and listening centre, math centre, painting centre, puzzle and games centre, sand table and water table.
