Ontario Junior Academic Programme

The Junior Programme (Grades Four to Five) is designed to encourage students to begin analyzing and interpreting the world around them. Our Curriculum is developed to allow for links between the core subjects so that students realize the connections between language, mathematics and science. Teaching strategies include hands-on learning and cooperative learning which enables students to interact, reflect and communicate.

Critical Thinking and Initiative

As abstract thinking skills begin to develop, it is important that each student be given opportunities to explore new concepts within an active setting. By encouraging students to explore within a safe and comfortable environment, they become self-reliant and involved. The grade four to six programme is developed to ensure that each student has opportunities to question, discover and communicate their ideas. The hands-on focus of the programme allows for a smooth tran sition from the learning center approach of the younger grades to the increased academic requirements at the junior level. Students are encouraged to take the initiative and begin to develop leadership skills.

Active Learning

Young learners are active learners. Hands-on learning interests children in the world around them and encourages questioning and discovery. Whether building models to test the effect of density or using drama to encourage language development, our teachers help develop and instill a love for learning in each child. Our Open Minds programme encourages students to view the world around them with depth and understanding.

Co-Curricular Activities

All students are encouraged to participate in the co-curricular programmes run at lunch or after school. Activities include house league sports, clubs, visual arts, calligraphy, choir and violin. These activities allow students to express themselves in different ways and experience new success outside of the formal classroom environment.
