  Laptop Learning Programme

The benefits of integrating technology with education are clear: utilizing technology in the classroom provides students with richer learning experiences and teaches students transferable skills that society has deemed necessary to be successful and competitive in post-secondary education and in the work force.

The Canadian International School, acknowledging the need and benefits of providing students with opportunities to use current technologies, implements an innovative approach to teaching and learning with the use of laptop computers.

Laptop Purchasing Options
It is mandatory that all new students in grade 9 - 12 have a laptop computer for use at school. It is strongly recommended that laptops be purchased through one of the school's official vendors. Available models and order forms can be obtained at the school's main office.

To enhance learning and teaching oportunities for students and teachers, the school is maintaining the optimal condition and operation of laptop computers. Purchasing student laptops through school vendors provides several significant benefits: a three year onsite warranty and priority repair services, as well as configuration, compatibility and troubleshooting services.

CIS Laptop Vendors and Models
CIS purchases laptop computers through Acer and Dell, as we have found they provide the best combination of cost, warranty and servicing, and performance.

How to Purchase a Laptop
Follow these steps to purchase a new laptop computer:

1.
Order Forms can be obtained from the school office or downloaded:
a. Acer Order form
b.

2.   Review the order form and select a laptop
3.   Return the completed order form and cheque or credit card information to the school (main office)
4.   Upon delivery to the school, the laptop will be configured and presented to the student

Network Accessibility
The network at the High School campus is 100% wireless. This means that students have the ability to access the network and all of its resources at any time of day, and from any location in the school.
Although the students purchase their own personal laptop computers, there are many resources and privileges that are provided by CIS to enrolled students.

Network Accounts
Students enrolled at CIS are given a personal network account that includes an individual username and password that allows them to securely log on to the school network and access computer resources such as file servers, software and access to the Internet.
