The Canadian International School (Singapore) is currently in its 19th year of operation. Initially established in 1990 as a university preparatory day school, the school was called Canadian Overseas College, but subsequently changed its name to the Canadian International School (Singapore).

In its first year, the school opened with a population of only 6 high school students and 6 staff members. Today, the Canadian International School (CIS) enrolls approximately 2000 students across its four campuses in Singapore.

CIS is proud to offer the IB Primary Years Programme, the IB Middle Years Programme and the IB Diploma Programme, and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Our Tanjong Katong Campus is currently an IB candidate school.

In September 1992, Canadian Overseas College changed its name to the Canadian International School, and began offering classes in Grades 7 and 8.

In August 1993, CIS opened the elementary school at the existing Toh Tuck Road Campus.

In August 2001, students in grades 9 to 12 were moved to the Bukit Tinggi campus. Students in grades 7 and 8 moved to Bukit Tinggi in August, 2003.

In 2002, CIS was authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

In 2003, CIS was authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP).

In May 2005, CIS was authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP).

In August 2006, students in grades 4 to 6 moved to the Bukit Tinggi campus. In addition, the High School (Grades 9 - 12) was moved to Kampong Bahru to accommodate the growing number of students.

This now gave CIS three campuses:
Elementary Campus (ECE to Grade 3) at 5 Toh Tuck Road
Middle School Campus (Grade 4 to 8) at 71 Bukit Tinggi Road
High School Campus (Grade 9 to 12) at 514 Kampong Bahru Road

In 2007, CIS recognized the need for a campus in the East. In September 2007, CIS opened the Tanjong Katong campus in the heritage site that used to house the Tanjong Katong Girls' School.

This campus offers ECE (Early Childhood Education - 3 years of age) to Grade 8. The programme will extend to Grade 9 in 2010/2011, and Grade 10 in 2011/2012. Our Tanjong Katong campus is currently a candidate school for the IB PYP and IB MYP.

September 2008, saw the very popular Parent and Child group moved from the Toh Tuck campus to the new Tanjong Katong campus.

In August 2010, the former Bukit Tinggi Middle School and Kampong Bahru High School communities amalgamated to the new interim campus at Jurong East. Whilst middle school and high school students will be part of a larger community, age appropriate segregation ensures that each school section will have their own "school within a school". This schools-within-a-school concept is a key feature of the design of the new Lakeside campus. Introducing students to this concept at Jurong East will help to ensure that they experience a seamless transition to the new campus in 2011.

The new Canadian International School “Lakeside Campus” at Jurong West, set on 43,000 sq. m (463,000 sq. ft.) of land, has been designed to reflect the very latest thinking in educational philosophy and functionality and will support our progressive and innovative educational programmes. Construction is expected to be completed by August, 2011.

On completion of the new Lakeside Campus, the communities from Toh Tuck, Bukit Tinggi, and Kampong Bahru will relocate to Lakeside. The recently renovated Canadian International School Tanjong Katong campus will remain and be developed further. This will provide CIS with campuses inthe Eastern and Western areas of Singapore.
